About

Who am I?

Hi there, I am Zeqiang Fang, working in Hangzhou city. I have a big nose like Wang Lihong, and a long face like Lin Gengxin. But enough about my looks, let me introduce myself professionally. I currently work as a data engineer at Alibaba Group, where I spend most of my time working on efficient data production pipelines. I have a background in software engineering, but my passion and profession are in storytelling with data. I especially enjoy using visualizations to discover facts that challenge common sense. In my free time, I love to go surfing and slopes with my snowboard, and I find joy in reading physical books and watching movies, which bring beauty and wonder to my life.

As a lifelong learner and adventurer, I started this blog to leave something for the world, to review my technical projects, record my life reflections, and cultivate a growth mindset. I love sci-fi (Asimov’s Foundation and Ted Chiang’s Stories of Your Life and Others are my favorites), tinkering with technology (cloud servers and OpenAI’s sandbox games are some of my favorites), and appreciating video games (Life is Strange and Minecraft top my list). Since middle school, I have been skateboarding, and I enjoy immersing myself in hip-hop culture to unlock new moves. I also enjoy drawing, and I am skilled in combining hand-drawn visuals with coding to communicate ideas. Lastly, I am a movie addict and can recognize films by their stills better than Google can.

I believe that elegance is timeless, and I am slightly obsessive about details, such as using the Source Han Serif font for my website(Yes! this website) and organizing everything in an orderly fashion. I also enjoy doing interesting things in different parts of the world, such as fighting with a French baguette in Europe, chatting with fish and chips in New Zealand, wearing a fifteen-pound shirt in the UK(A Chinese joke), and treating heat stroke with a mojito in L.A. As I age, I appreciate absurdity more and plan to finish reading One Hundred Years of Solitude this year.
